KVH® solid structural timber

As a manufacturer and member of the German Association for the Supervision of Solid Structural Timber (Überwachungsgemeinschaft Konstruktionsvollholz e.V.), we produce solid structural timber (KVH®) – a building material that meets the requirements of modern timber construction – at our production site in Cölbe/Schönstadt (DE).

150km³/a of finger-jointed finished goods
50km³ of non-finger-jointed finished goods
Anysize up to 16*30cm

Manufacturer of high-quality KVH® structural timber

KVH® is a kiln-dried, strength-graded and usually finger-jointed solid softwood product.

Due to its indentation and the low moisture content of the material, it has only a slight tendency to crack, is dimensionally stable and can be used without preventive chemical wood preservation provided the rules of structural wood preservation are observed.

The very highest level of quality

The precisely defined quality and product properties are continuously monitored by the Stuttgart Materials Testing Institute (Materialprüfanstalt – MPA), ensuring a consistently high level of workmanship.

Production, use and implementation

We produce solid finger-jointed and non-finger-jointed structural timber. The strength of KVH timber makes it a first-rate quality material for all types of construction.

This is because solid finger-jointed timber is ideal as a construction wood, particularly for building structures or frames that meet modern requirements, i.e. structural strength, thermal and acoustic insulation and long-term durability.

Finger-jointing involves gluing together short pieces of defect-free wood and assembling them lengthwise, with joints connecting them.

Our main products are beams, which we supply to the construction sector in Europe.

Types of KVH timber

There are two main types of KVH timber: KVH-SI and KVH-NSI. These are surface qualities, and therefore categorisations of the product for visible (SI) or non-visible use (NSI). In German, SI signifies sichtbar (visible) and NSI stands for nicht sichtbar (non-visible).

Visible application

High-quality timber for visible purposes must be free of defects and unique characteristics. KVH-SI (visible) is fully planed.

Standard EN 15497 specifies the type of cut, dimensional tolerances, the acceptability of taper as well as other properties.

Non-visible application

The KVH-NSI is smooth with a minimum of 50 per cent of lateral surfaces planed.

In terms of surface, certain irregularities are permitted, provided they do not affect structural integrity. These are aesthetic imperfections in the wood, such as longitudinal cracks, darker heartwood etc.
